The Board of Education of Hanover Area School District recognizes the importance of public records as the record of the acts of this district and the repository of information about this district. The public has the right under law to inspect and to procure copies of such records with certain exceptions subject to the following guidelines.
The public records of this district shall mean any account, voucher or contract dealing with the receipt of disbursement of funds; acquisition, use or disposal of services or of supplies, materials, equipment or other property; or any minutes, orders or decisions fixing the personal or property rights, privileges, immunities, duties or obligations of any person or group of persons.
The Board shall make the public records of this district available for inspection, and copies thereof in accordance with these guidelines, with the exception of those records exempted from such inspection and copying by law and the rules of this Board.
In order to facilitate and clarify procedures relative to the public viewing of public documents, the following procedures will be established:
1. All documents approved by the Board are public documents.
2. All public documents may be viewed during regular school business hours upon twenty-four (24) hours written request specifying the documents to be viewed.
3. Copies of public documents may be held, provided:
a. Forty-eight (48) hours notice is given for reproduction.
b. Person requesting copies will pay for the reproduction of materials in advance.
c. Records may be copies at the request of the individual at a cost of twenty-five cents (25¢) per page for letter and legal sized documents.
All requests must be in writing and addressed to the Superintendent.
